Reducing Plastic Waste

At The Bush Camp Chiang Mai, we are dedicated to minimizing plastic waste and finding sustainable alternatives. Here are some of our ongoing efforts:

• Reusable Water Bottles: Upon arrival, all guests receive complimentary reusable stainless steel water bottles for the duration of their stay. We provide convenient refill stations at all our tour locations, ensuring access to fresh drinking water without the need for single-use plastic bottles.
• Plastic-Free Dining: We have eliminated the use and sale of plastic bottles in our restaurant and cafe. Instead, we offer alternative options for staying hydrated, including refillable and recyclable glass bottles for drinking water in rooms and transfers.
• Sustainable Straws: In all our restaurants and cafe, we have replaced plastic straws with reusable stainless steel straws, reducing the consumption of single-use plastics and minimizing environmental impact.
• Refillable Toiletries: We provide shampoo, conditioner, and soap in refillable ceramic dispensers, reducing the use of individual plastic containers. We offer only essential toiletries, opting for paper packaging and cotton buds with wooden stems.
• Eco-Friendly Souvenirs: Our souvenir shop provides paper bags as an alternative to plastic bags, encouraging sustainable practices among our guests.
• Responsible Staff Events: During large staff events and training sessions, we prioritize the environment of The Bush Camp. Instead of using plastic or foam lunch boxes, plastic bottles, cups, and utensils, we opt for reusable and recyclable alternatives, reducing waste and promoting sustainability.
• Sustainable Marketing: We have transitioned away from plastic-based marketing materials. Instead of plastic pens, we provide sustainable and plantable seed pencils, allowing guests to embrace nature’s beauty and reduce plastic waste.

CO2 Offset Project: Mitigating Our Carbon Footprint

We are proud to maintain a strong connection with our international partners, and our marketing team frequently visits them across the globe. Recognizing the environmental impact of long-haul travel, we have implemented various measures to both reduce and offset the emissions generated by these journeys. Our commitment to sustainability drives us to find innovative solutions.

One significant step in minimizing our flights is establishing permanent marketing teams in Europe and Australia. By having local teams, we prioritize the use of public land transportation as the primary mode of travel. This strategic approach significantly reduces the need for frequent air travel, resulting in lower carbon emissions.

When air travel remains necessary, we strive to maximize our time in each country or region, avoiding unnecessary back-and-forth flights. To offset the carbon emissions associated with our marketing flights, we initiated our CO2 Offset Project in 2017. We conducted surveys to identify suitable planting areas and began the planting process in Kaeng Krung National Park. As a result, we successfully planted 6,500 trees, effectively offsetting the emissions from all our marketing flights in 2017 and 2018.

We are excited to continue our efforts and eagerly anticipate planting additional trees at the end of this year to offset our 2022 flights. Furthermore, we firmly believe that there is no such thing as planting too many trees. Therefore, we are actively seeking opportunities to expand this project to new areas, aiming to make an even greater positive impact on the environment.
