1 Night or 2? Planning a Bush Camp Chiang Mai Stay

The Bush Camp actively supports broader wildlife conservation initiatives in collaboration with relevant agencies.

The Bush Camp Chiang Mai offers two safari options. Choose 2 Days, 1 Night, or 3 Days, 2 Nights. Both include the same ethical elephant experience and the same Karen Hill Tribe culture. The difference is simply how much time you get to enjoy them. This guide sets out what each package includes, so you can pick the right one.

How Many Nights Should You Spend at The Bush Camp Chiang Mai?

1 Night or 2

The Bush Camp Chiang Mai offers two packages: 2-day and 3-day. Both give you genuine time with our elephants and mahouts.

We built both itineraries around the same core experience. You will spend time with our free-roaming, chain-free elephants. You will learn about Karen mahout culture. You will also watch the sunset from an elevated viewpoint over the Ping River. Guests with only a day or two to spare often choose the shorter package. This also suits travellers exploring the wider Chiang Mai attractions. Those building a longer Thailand itinerary tend to prefer the extra night. So do travellers wanting a proper break from city life. Neither option feels rushed. Our guides pace each day around the camp’s natural rhythm, not a packed checklist.

Inside the 2 Days, 1 Night Package

The 2 Days, 1 Night package gives you a full introduction to The Bush Camp. It suits a compact Northern Thailand itinerary.

After your transfer from Chiang Mai, you will arrive in time for lunch. Check-in follows a delicious Thai meal. Your first afternoon centres on the ethical elephant experience. You will help our team prepare food for the elephants. You will then watch them move freely through their habitat. Any feeding happens entirely on the elephants’ own terms. You will also spend time with our Karen mahout families. They will show you how they live alongside the elephants they care for. As evening falls, a sundowner awaits at one of our elevated viewpoints. It overlooks the Ping River. A buffet dinner of Thai and Western dishes follows.

On your second morning, you will return to the elephants’ free-roaming habitat. You can observe their morning routine, including their wash in the river. Our guides explain the animal husbandry and veterinary care behind the herd’s welfare. After a final lunch overlooking the Ping River, you will transfer back to Chiang Mai. Return is typically in the early afternoon.

Inside the 3 Days, 2 Nights Package

The 3 Days, 2 Nights package follows the same opening day. It then adds a full second day for rest and further elephant time. It suits guests who prefer to unwind rather than rush between activities.

Your first day mirrors the shorter package. Expect the elephant and mahout experience, a sundowner viewpoint, and dinner. Your second morning again brings you close to the elephants during their daily routine. Our team explains more about their care. From there, the packages part ways. Instead of departing, you get a full free afternoon at camp. Many guests spend it beside our infinity pool, looking out over the Ping River. Others simply rest on their tent balcony.

Your third morning takes you to the Elephant Valley. Here you can see more of the herd roaming freely. You will also learn further details about elephant welfare on site. It is a quieter, more reflective session than your first day’s introduction. After a final buffet lunch, you transfer back to Chiang Mai in the afternoon.

Which Package Suits Your Travel Style?

The right choice depends on your itinerary and your travel companions. It also depends on how much downtime you want built in. This table sets out the main differences.

Feature 2 Days, 1 Night 3 Days, 2 Nights
Elephant experience sessions Two Three
Free, unstructured time Minimal A full afternoon by the pool
Karen mahout culture Included Included
Best for Shorter Thailand itineraries Travellers wanting a proper break
Meals included Full board Full board
Transfers Included, from Chiang Mai Included, from Chiang Mai

Couples celebrating a short getaway often find the shorter package delivers everything they came for. Families and solo travellers wanting genuine rest tend to favour the extra day. Whichever package you choose, the minimum age for guests is four years old. Both packages follow the same booking conditions and cancellation terms. Seasonal offers are listed on our promotions page. These include family rates and our no-single-supplement policy during the green season. It is worth checking before you book.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I stay 1 night or 2 nights at The Bush Camp Chiang Mai?

It depends on your available time and travel style. The 2 Days, 1 Night package suits travellers with limited time. It still offers a meaningful elephant experience and a taste of Karen culture. The 3 Days, 2 Nights package suits guests who prefer a slower pace. It offers a full free afternoon and extra time with the elephants.

What is the difference between the 2-day and 3-day safari packages?

Both packages include the ethical elephant experience, mahout culture, and full-board meals. The 3-day package adds a second night. It also adds a free afternoon by the pool. A further morning at the Elephant Valley rounds things out.
